Just another Gaza Stripper –pun intended– who thinks Gaza is widely misunderstood and misrepresented in the international media. I am hoping to use this blog as a means to share my stories and experiences in what is considered by some the biggest open-air prison in the world.
Much like a chicken cage, Gazans are locked up by Israelis, kept well-fed by international donors and tunnel smugglers, and ruled by one crazy rooster at a time. Within this cage, hierarchies do exist as well, chicken living on top get showered by chicken grit, at times defecating on everyone living below them. After all, some of Gaza´s political, economic, and historical elite enjoy certain privileges allowing them to lead a seemingly normal style of living. As confusing and mind perplexing as this might be, one should not forget that in Gaza A. we have a capitalist economy B. we are all still chicken.
Furthermore, I am a secular Palestinian — YES we do exist, call us few, unrepresentative, western informants or whatever, it wont change the fact that we are Palestinian– who does not believe in the notion of prioritizing our struggle for recognition and freedom on the international level over the equally important internal struggle for democracy, social freedom, and equality. The two aspects are interrelated, thus, it should come as no surprise that some of my posts will be very provocative and critical of the way we, Palestinians, handle things. Needless to say, I have no affiliation to any political or religious party in the Palestinian Territories or elsewhere.
